The Selection Committee's "Criteria" is Irrelevant

Jason Smith: "Quad 1 wins are supposed to be a big deal this year. Texas is in with 15 losses. Why? Cause of their Quad 1 schedule. Meanwhile, North Carolina gets in, and what's their record in Quad 1 games? 1-12. How do you say that North Carolina deserves to get in? Do you feel bad because if they didn't have the lane violation against Duke, they would have gotten in? The NCAA selection committee simply finds the argument that works for them and they say it. They're like politicians. They decide to take whatever criteria matters to them in that moment to make it work for the teams they want to put in, and that's why it's a load of crap. I've gotten to the acceptance point, where I just know that the committee is going to do this. It's a lawless enterprise. College sports are lawless, top to bottom. The conferences and committees can just make whatever decisions they want."

Jason Smith and Steve DeSaegher give their thoughts on the controversial decisions of the Selection Committee for this year's Tournament. Jason believes the lack of consistency in criteria from year-to-year proves that the committee will always find some way to defend the selections of teams that they simply want in the tournament due to their history and brand, as seen this year with the decision to include North Carolina.
