Remember the name Miyan Williams. He led the charge in Winton Woods’ 61-27 victory over Chillicothe Friday in the Division 2 Regional Quarterfinals Friday night.
The 200 pound sophomore running back rushed for 235 yards on just 13 carries and crossed the goal line five times leaving battered Cavaliers in his wake. The Warriors offensive line average 275 pounds per man and created pathways that eventually wore the Chillicothe defense down.
The Cavaliers (8-3) show resilience early on. After yielding a big pass on the Warriors’ first play which set up a 6-yard touchdown run for Williams, the Cavs responded with a 41 yard TD run for Branden Maughmer.
Chillicothe took a 14-7 lead after a high snap was recovered by Nick Erslan at the Winton Woods 30. A couple of plays later, Connor Mathis scored from 12 yards out.
But the Cavalier lead was short lived as Williams struck again and gave the home team a 21-14 lead on another run from 22 yards.
The Cavs answered with a 31 yard TD pass to JJ Harris for a 21-21 tie.
Chillicothe fell behind 35-21 at the half and simply couldn’t bounce back in the second half. Winton Woods increased its lead to 55-21 before Maughmer punched in a one yard run with 10 minutes remaining.
Maughmer was held to 61 yards rushing and was 8-20 and 111 yards and a TD pass, an interception and two TDs on the ground. Harris finished the game with 150 return yards and a TD reception. The Warriors outgained the Cavs 578-228.
Winton Woods (10-1) advances to face Anderson next Friday. Chillicothe closes its season with a Frontier Athletic Conference Championship and a third consecutive trip to the post season.
