Virginia Woolfe, affectionately known as Jenny in her foster home, is about 6 months old, weighs around 30 pounds, and is believed to be a Great Pyrenees mix. She's also completely deaf, which, as it turns out, doesn't bother her one bit.
Jenny seems very smart and has already learned hand signals for sit, down, and shake. She pays close attention to her people and has proven that being deaf is simply another way of experiencing the world, not something that holds her back.
She's doing wonderfully with house training. She hasn't had a single accident in her foster home, although she won't let you know when she needs to go outside. As long as she's let out on a regular schedule, she happily does her business outdoors. She gets along beautifully with dogs of all sizes and absolutely loves having canine friends to play with. When playtime is over, she's perfectly content to settle down with a Benebone or curl up for a nap. She doesn't love walking into her crate, but once she's there, she's quiet, sleeps peacefully, and has no trouble spending the night. She's equally happy snoozing in her kennel or stretching out in bed with her people.
Jenny firmly believes that shoes are a food group. Thanks to her foster family's momentary lack of supervision, she's sampled a pair of Crocs and a pair of Birkenstocks. She gives them rave reviews. The solution is simple: keep your shoes picked up until she learns they're off the menu.
She also gets carsick every single time she rides in the car, so if your dream dog is one who accompanies you on cross-country road trips, Jenny would politely decline. She's much happier staying close to home.
Because she's deaf, we'd love to see her in a home with a fenced yard where she can safely explore, although it's not an absolute requirement. What's most important is a family that's willing to continue using hand signals and help her build confidence.
Jenny is sweet, incredibly smart, ridiculously cute, and proof that puppies don't need to hear your voice to know they're loved. She just needs someone willing to speak her language, which, thankfully, is made up of treats, belly rubs, hand signals, and maybe keeping the Birkenstocks on a higher shelf.
