Cavaliers focus on defensive effort to defeat Adena in boys basketball

Chillicothe’s Cavaliers used their defensive pressure to secure a 55-21 win over Adena in boys’ high school basketball action at the Zane Trace Tip-Off Classic, Friday.

“We knew that Warren coaches would be here, New Lexington coaches would be here, so we were pretty vanilla offensively,” Chillicothe Coach Pat Beard said. “We didn’t run very many sets at all. It was all about scoring off our defense.”

Chillicothe shot 38% (21 of 56) from the field, made 25% (3 of 12) from beyond the arc, and was 56% (9 of 16) from the foul line. Adena, meanwhile, went 38% (8 of 21) in shooting, made 33% (2 of 6) of its three-point attempts, and shot 60% (3 of 5) at the foul line.

“There are a lot of things we still need to work on, but I just want to see 110% energy,” said Coach Beard. “If you can do that, I don’t care how many mistakes we make. Anyone here will say there was 110% energy tonight.”

Chillicothe’s sophomore Caydon Cox and Adena sophomore Colton Garrison where named players of the game for their respective teams.
