Zane Trace secured its first victory of the season with a 51-35 win over Circleville in boys’ high school basketball, Wednesday night. The game remained tight throughout, with the Pioneers holding a slim 9-8 lead after the first quarter. Circleville edged ahead by halftime, leading 22-15. Zane Trace managed to stay within striking distance, trailing by just six points at the end of the third quarter; however, the Pioneers pulled away in the final period to seal the 16-point win.
Junior Grady Stewart, named MVP of the Zane Trace Tip-Off Classic, led the Pioneers with 16 points. Senior teammates Landon Robinson and Ezra Rippeth added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Defensively, senior Noah Houston and junior Gunnar McCullough were key contributors for Zane Trace.
For Circleville, junior Riley Jenkins led the Tigers with 10 points, while junior Jack Kline chipped in 7.
Zane Trace (1-0) next travels to Westfall on Tuesday, while Circleville (0-1) will face Liberty Union on Saturday.
