Report on Major Projects for Water & Sewer Systems in Chillicothe

Chillicothe Council heard an update on the major happenings in city utilities. Councilman Greg McKeever, chair of utilities, read from a report from the Chillicothe Utilities Director.

  • The completion date for expansion and upgrades to the Wastewater Treatment Plant has been delayed from September 2026 to February 2027. (Mayor Luke Feeney had reported that in an earlier session.)
  • A 14-ton carbon dioxide tank for the Water Treatment Plant in Yoctangee Park is set to be replaced with a larger 40-ton tank.
  • The city’s GIS, or Geographical Information System (the digital locational system that is critical to anything anymore), is being updated.
  • The “Marietta lift station” on the sewer system from the city north of Scioto River – including Bridge Street – is getting a big rehab next year. The station is behind Lowes and Herrnstein on Marietta Road. Earlier work under Bridge Street at Marietta Road is part of preparations for ODOT’s major planned work on Bridge Street starting next year. It’s being paid for by a $2.8M “Congressional Directed Spending” that does not need a match of local money.
  • A new well is needed for the Water Treatment Plant in Yoctangee Park, which may already have eight – with one that has been operatin since 1956. Funding for it was delayed to next year.
  • And a remote-site Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) computer system that monitors water and wastewater for the Wastewater Treatment Plant is being upgraded for more efficiency by a local business.
