Ross County Grand Jury: Stolen Handgun Found at Passenger’s Seat

The Ross County Grand Jury returned all 14 of their cases on Friday, June 14th, 2024, with three open for release to the public. From testimony in the grand jury in one of the cases, according to the Ross County Prosecutor’s Office:

On December 10th in Hocking County, an SCCY 9mm handgun was reported stolen.

On April 18th in Chillicothe, a police officer puller over a vehicle in the area of South Watt Street for expired tags. 19-year-old Dominique J. Lawson of Columbus was a passenger, He was removed from the vehicle, but fled on foot.

An inventory of the vehicle found a Crossbody bag hanging from the passenger armrest. Inside was the stolen SCCY 9mm handgun.

Lawson was arrested on April 29th, possibly on a traffic stop.

For an indictment on fourth-degree felony receiving stolen property, he could get up to 18 months and $5,000 in fines. He also has another pending felony indictment.
