The Republican candidate who wants to unseat Democratic U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown visited Chillicothe Friday. Bernie Moreno spoke to a small group in a private meeting room at Rōst Coffee to “meet community leaders” as he travels around Ohio during his campaign.
Bernie Moreno spoke to a small group in a private room at Rōst Coffee.
Moreno had nothing but criticism for his opponent in the interview he gave me afterward. He said he is taking on “career politician” Sherrod Brown, who has “been in office since Richard Nixon.”
Moreno said his is an uphill struggle against Brown, the chair of a powerful Senate committee who can bully funding from corporations and will get funding from out-of-state interests like George Soros.
Moreno said Brown mocks him as used car salesman, though Brown has never had a private sector job and gets perks as an officeholder paid for by public money. (On his website, Moreno notes that he “purchased his first car dealership in 2005 by investing every cent he had, and then some…he turned that one dealership into one of the largest dealership groups in America.”)
When I pointed out that Brown worked with fellow Ohio Sentaor J.D. Vance on the East Palestine train wreck and toxic spill and burn, Moreno said that was because Vance wrote the legislation and then shamed Brown into cooperating.
Moreno says he is a legal immigrant, but that illegal immigration must be stopped. (Also on his website, Moreno notes he was “born in Bogota, Colombia. At age five…he moved to the United States with his family. Bernie became an American citizen at age 18.”)
Moreno pointed out that six months from tomorrow is election day, and that Republicans must vote and not listen to Brown’s “outrageously misleading commercials.”
Hear Moreno in his own words in the interview video in the article on the Scioto Post.
