League of Women Voters Hears About That and Similar Services
The Chillicothe-Ross League of Women Voters hosted Julie Bowen of “Ross County Community Action” Tuesday evening. At the Stevenson Center of Ohio University Chillicothe, 17 of the members spent an hour and a half listening and asking questions.
Bowen gave updates on initiatives and programs from Community Action, based at Woodbridge and Western avenues. Those include a domestic violence shelter at an undisclosed location that opened in September.
But the big news is a new Community Resource Center that is opening soon in the former Eastern Avenue Lumber Company. There have been strong rumors about that for several months, and Bowen says they are working to open the facility in a few weeks.
She says this will include a homeless shelter that will be open 24 hours a day this winter. At its previous locations, the shelter was open only at night, but since Community Action owns this site, they have much more flexibility.
Bowen said they have six acres there at 804 Eastern Avenue, and are assessing what all they can do with the buildings and property.
Ross County Community Action has a website and Facebook page, and can be reached at 740 / 702-7222 or in-person 8am to 4pm at 250 Woodbridge Avenue in Chillicothe.
