Two presentations on historical architecture are coming up this week – lost Chillicothe treasures on Wednesday, and barns on Thursday.
Lisa Uhrig, Ross County Historical Society Photo Archivist, will present “Chillicothe’s Lost Architectural Treasures.”
It will be 2 to 3:30pm Wednesday, November 29th, in the Bennett Hall Auditorium at Ohio University Chillicothe (not the Ross County Heritage Center).
“See and learn about the buildings that were an important part of Chillicothe’s history” – but are no longer standing.
OU-C is atop Carlisle Hill at the corner of University Drive and West Fifth Street in Chillicothe. Find more of their upcoming events online.
The second and last fall lecture by the Ross County Historical Society will be “The Barn Builders – An Architectural Legacy in Ohio’s Rural Landscape” on Thursday, November 30th.
Tom O’Grady is the Director of Outreach at the Southeastern Ohio History Center in Athens and member of the Friends of Ohio Barns.
“Culture groups migrating from the Middle Atlantic states and from the South settled in various regions of Ohio, and their distinct farms and barns can be observed when traveling throughout the state.
“The barn builders have left an architectural legacy throughout rural Ohio that can help one understand much about the heritage of the region.”
Their previous presentation was “New Light on the Underground Railroad in the Appalachian Foothills of Ohio.”
The Ross County Heritage Center is at 45 West Fifth Street in Chillicothe.
