This weekend is the Friends of Serpent Mound’s "Summer Solstice Celebration" next door to the mysterious earthwork in northeastern Adams County.
It starts 4pm Friday with a raptor program, then a talk on the flora and geology of the ancient Meteor Crater, and ends with a limited after-hours presentation on owls.
A canoe tour is at 9am, and events are 10 to 7 Saturday...then 9 to 7 Sunday. Music and sound accompany scholarly presentations. The last talk is 4pm Sunday with Serpent Mound expert Jeffrey Wilson speaking on alignments at the earthwork.
The "Summer Solstice Celebration" is in Soaring Eagle Retreat, with foot access to Serpent Mound state park off State Route 73 between Sinking Spring and Peebles.
Some events are limited and require registration. Find information in the event website by the Friends of Serpent Mound.
