Preview of "Juneteenth" Shows and Event at the Pump House

June 2023 will be a busy month at the Pump House Center for the Arts in Chillicothe's Yoctangee Park, with two Juneteenth shows and an event. Kevin Coleman gives a preview. (Hear his extended radio audio below.)

"Juneteenth" celebrates the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation on June 19, 1865, in Texas, which freed the slaves in the Confederacy during the Civil War.

June's Pump House show “Celebrating Artist of Color” is co-hosted by the Ross County NAACP and the King Arts Complex of Columbus. An additional judged show on the upper gallery will be the “Celebrating Youth Artist” show, for Ross County students in grades 4 through 8.

The Juneteenth event proper will be on Father's Day, Sunday, June 18th, with food trucks and vendors. Contact the Pump House to be one of them.

Opening night of both shows will be this Friday - instead of the usual Thursday - to avoid competing with Rotary's Pizza and Wing Fest "First Thursday" in the Majestic Courtyard in downtown Chillicothe.
