Local Memorial Day Weekend Events

School is out, we've had summer weather for a while, and Memorial Day is Monday. Kevin Coleman has a preview of coming attractions this weekend.

The 40th anniversary Feast of the Flowering Moon is in Chillicothe's Yoctangee Park with a focus on Native American dancing. The festival runs until 10 tonight, 10 to 10 Saturday, and 10 to 6 Sunday. Their Memorial Day Weekend Grand Parade is 4:30 Saturday.

The free trolley bus has a revised route because of street closures in the park.

The Chillicothe City Pool opens for the season tomorrow, Saturday, May 27th. It will be open 12 to 7 Mondays through Saturdays, and 1 to 7 Sundays.

The "Sons of Liberty" muzzleloading club will be interpreting the American frontier from the 1740s to the 1890s in their annual spring rendezvous at Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp, about halfway between Richmond Dale and Jackson, off US 35. Visitors are welcome to the camp 9 to 5 Saturday and Sunday.

And ceremonies for the true meaning of Memorial Day start at 9am Monday at Grandview Cemetery, with a wreath laying, raising the flag to half staff, a rifle salute by Civil War re-enactors, and taps.

The Ross County Veterans Honor Guard then holds similar simple ceremonies at Chillicothe's St. Margaret's Cemetery at 9:30, at Chillicothe's Greenlawn Cemetery at 10 and 10:15, at Floral Hills off US 23 South at 10:45, at Hallsville Cemetery at 11:30...ending at Roland Cemetery off State Route 104 near the Fairgrounds at 12:15.
