Ross County Grand Jury: Accused Tire and Trailer Thieves

The Ross County Grand Jury returned all 18 cases Friday, with five open.  Kevin Coleman has more on a pair of suspected tire thieves.

According to the Ross County Prosecutor's Office:

Tractor Supply on Bridge Street reported a $3,700 trailer stolen October 26th.

Then on January 23, the Chillicothe Herrnstein dealership reported seven spare tires stolen from Jeeps on the lot, with video showing a man removing them with a tool and placing them on a trailer pulled by a truck with a woman inside. They returned January 25th

On January 24th, a Pennske dealership in Obets on the south side of Columbus reported a suspicious man and woman trying to sell tires to them. Plates on their trailer led Chillicothe Police to 635 Liberty Street where they found the trailer and three of the seven Herrnstein tires...and 34 other untraceable tires.

The homeowner said her daughter and boyfriend were using the trailer to haul tires, and admitted that they might be up to no good.

For indictments on theft, attempted theft, possessing criminal tools, and receiving stolen property, 48-year-old Ronald Perkins of Columbus, and 42-year-old Maridra Stepp of Chillicothe, could each get up to a year and a half and $3,500 in fines.
