Chillicothe Council to Take Action Quickly on Broken Tornado Sirens

Monday night, Chillicothe Council heard they will be taking action quickly on tornado sirens. Kevin Coleman was there.

With spring weather upon us, Safety Service chair Julie Preston said four of the city's seven city tornado sirens are not doing their job. Mayor Luke Feeney notified council of the non-functioning ones at Central Center, Brewer Heights, University Hill, and the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

She said it will cost $6,240 to repair each siren, but $42,493 to replace each one - so Preston says the city will repair the broken ones now, while keeping in mind they need to be replaced in the future.

She said her committee approved putting them on council's agenda for the next session in two weeks, and then passing them immediately - but repairs are already starting.

Mayor Feeney said the city's sirens are actually not that old. They were funded by a grant in the early 2000s to replace old fallout shelter sirens.
