Chillicothe Council Hears Opposition to Reducing Number of Council Members

Chillicothe Council heard opposition to possibly reducing the number of council members. Kevin Coleman was there Monday evening.

Council has representatives from each of six wards, plus three at-large members who represent the entire city.

The Reverend Terry Williams watchdogs council sessions and committees. He said a special council committee meeting a few weeks ago discussed several options to simplify council but reducing the nine members to five.

Williams said the committee also considered eliminating the six wards, so that all council members would be at-large...meaning they would not represent a specific area.

He said he brought a group to the last committee meeting, and they seemed more subdued about the ideas. Several of the group stood up in Monday's council session to support William's opposition to the ideas.
