Chillicothe Council Hears Good, and Not-So-Good News, from Mayor

Chillicothe Council heard good news, and not-so-good news, Monday night from the mayor. Kevin Coleman reports.

Mayor Luke Feeney said the last big wind ripped up about a third of the roof of the so-called Pepsi Building on East 7th Street that the city has been planning to reuse as a service garage.

He said the renovation plans were finalized and the city was ready to go out for bids last week...but just before then, the March 3rd windstorm blew off a part of the roof that they thought was in good shape.

Feeney said insurance should cover all the costs. The insurance company also suggested to work with the design company who planned the renovation, to engineer the replacement roof...and before then, engineer a large temporary tarp.

Feeney also said the contract has finally been awarded to renovate the 70-year-old wastewater treatment plant on Renick Avenue. He said the more-than-$60,000,000 project is the biggest project for the city in years.

But Feeney says the city was able to get much better financing than they expected, dropping it from 4% to 1.6% - which means a savings of millions of dollars in taxpayers' money.

He said the work is hoped to be done in early 2026
