Land Bank Advice for Nuisance Properties Outside of Chillicothe

The Ross County Land Bank met with Ross County Commissioners Monday, and fielded a question. Kevin Coleman was there.

A woman who lived in Bainbridge asked if the land bank could help with a neighboring house in limbo. She said the owner had died and one heir had given permission for tenants, but there is no water or electrical service, and the house and yard are a worsening nuisance.

Chillicothe Mayor Luke Feeney, the chair of the land bank, said the city has enforcement tools - but outside of the city, the best option is to go to the Ross County Health District if there are potential health issues as part of the nuisance.

The legal process of eviction, condemnation, and government acquiring property have many restrictions.

In their meeting, the land bank discussed continuing to sell properties, a few abatements and demolitions under way, a pro bono offer from a realty company, and other matters. They will meet again May 17th.
