Ross County Grand Jury: Shooting, Breaking into Vehicles

Friday's Ross County Grand Jury returned all 21 of their cases, with two open.

In one case, according to the Ross County Prosecutor's Office:

On February 5th, Chillicothe police responded to a laundromat on South Walnut Street. There, a witness said 23-year-old Tyrese C. Finch had come into possession of another man's debit cards, and that Finch had told the victim meet him and pay to have them returned.

They exchanged words, and Finch shot the victim, who then drove to the hospital and was treated and released. (Hospitals are required to report gunshot wounds.)

Police located Finch in a Tiffin Towers apartment, with a handgun in a backpack, that he admitted he had fired that night.

In addition, video footage from Tiffin Towers show him firing into the air the over the street at least twice.

For indictments on felonious assault with a firearm specification, and discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises, Finch could get up to 11 years and $25,000 in fines.

In the other case, according to the Ross County Prosecutor's Office:

On January 4th, Chillicothe police responded to the area of Granite Cliff and Hanover drives in the far west side on a report of a man possibly breaking into vehicles.

23-year-old Michael Edward Merritt of 728 East Fourth Street was found hiding behind a truck. A pistol and magazine were found under the truck, near his bicycle and bookbag...which contained items commonly stolen from vehicles.

Merritt admitted to taking them, and showed the officer which vehicle he took the firearm from, and where he entered a garage to get into another vehicle.

For indictments on burglary and grand theft, Merritt could get up to 11 years and $25,000 in fines.
