As you heard in our preview stories, this is the start of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.
Part of that was an opening of a show at the Pump House Center for the Arts last night, where Kevin Coleman spoke with Lacey Derexson, the Community Outreach Director of the Pioneer Center and Ross County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
She said there are more than 180 works by DD students and adults - the most they have had post-COVID, so had to use display space upstairs. Most works are for sale, and she says the DD adults get proceeds from the sales.
Among several events for DD Month is "Food Truck Fridays" at the Board of DD's West Main Street headquarters. Today is "Up In Smoke Kingston."
Kevin chatted a while with Derexson on upcoming events and the Pioneer Center and Board of DD, and you can hear that interview below. She explains the shirt with the Disability Pride Flag, available locally.
