Working Towards a County-Wide EMS Service

The first public meeting on working towards a county-wide EMS Service will be in less than three weeks. Kevin Coleman was at the Ross County Commissioners meeting Tuesday.

Jim Hatfield, president of the Ross County Township Association, says a committee has been formed of township trustees and county officials to handle finding a consultant to study how to have consistent emergency service.

Hatfield says they will probably aim for a nine-minute response time...unlike what happened Christmas Day.

He said Increasingly broader calls were made for a woman in cardiac arrest on State Route 28 in Twin Township. It finally took 52 minutes before EMS arrived...and that was from Chillicothe. A Sheriff's deputy had arrived just before then, but could do little to help.

The woman's daughter, Summer Miner, asked the commissioners what was needed to be done to stop such long wait times.

The first meeting of this committee will be February 7th at the Ross County Service Center, and it will be open to the public. The whole process may take 18-24 months.
