Chillicothe Council gave next year's budget a second reading last night...sort of. Kevin Coleman was there.
There's a nasty two-week cold going around, and it kept council's clerk from managing last week's session, and having a clear record of it for this week.
So, it was unclear if the budget will be at third read and ready for passage in council's planned last session before 2023 next Monday, when they might not have the quorum to pass it on second reading.
But council at least was able to tend to an end-of-year financial mop-up for payroll. City auditor Crystal Spetnagel said the contracts for all three employee bargaining units had expired and were renewed, and some non-bargaining ordinances were completed, causing unforseen costs to payroll that needed to resolved before the year ended.
