Land Bank Continuing Work, Including with Habitat for Humanity

The "Land Bank" held their monthly meeting with the Ross County Commissioners Tuesday morning. Kevin Coleman was there.

Chillicothe Mayor Luke Feeney is the president of the board officially named the "Ross County Land Reutilization Corporation."

Like many other land banks, it was created a few years ago after the "Great Recession" and predatory mortgage crisis to deal with abandoned buildings, usually houses.

Feeney says the goal is to get properties back into the hands of responsible owners. The ideal is to rehab, but usually demolition is needed.

But after that, he says good things can happen, such as working with the local Habitat for Humanity. Feeney says they have one house under way, and two more lots lined up for building.

Several of their vacant lots now have "for sale" signs and are listed on Zillow. You can also Contact Asti Powell, City of Chillicothe Planning and Development Director and Land Bank Director.
