Chillicothe Council again lacked enough members present to take special action, so none of the legislative items could be passed.
But thanks to Robb O'Dell pointing out a council assignment, Kevin Coleman asked about a new special committee.
Council president Joe Gieringer has created a bipartisan group to consider reducing the number of council members from nine, to seven...or even five.
Gieringer says Chillicothe has the same number of council members as Columbus, well above state code. He said this reduction was previously attempted about 2012, but never made it out of committee.
After acted on by the committee, the decision would have to go to a public vote to allow the entire city to say yea or nay.
Gieringer says this would reduce expenses since council member are paid around $10,000 each, and would also curb the growth of government.
If passed by council in time, the reduction vote may be in the spring 2023 elections.

Mayor Luke Feeney also said city crews hope they can finish the sewer repair at Water and Watt streets by the end of September...but he didn't sound optimistic.
