The Chillicothe City Council Development Committee is considering a request from the Ross County Humane Society for the City to help fund the establishment of a new humane society shelter.
The humane society has a fundraising goal of $1.5 million and it’s asking the city to contribute $100-thousand to that goal, and an additional contribution of $50-thousand per year for ongoing care.
So far, the humane society has raised $425,000 toward its goal, and has commitments of another $700,000 that will come soon.
Chillicothe Council is working to form a committee to investigate development options for the former Tiffin School property.
They would prohibit city administration from entering into any agreements or making statements that would imply a commitment on the part of the city, without a majority vote by Chillicothe City Council.
