Chillicothe Council Criticized for Vote on Board of Health Candidates

Chillicothe Council heard an earful about their divided vote on two candidates for the Ross County Board of Health.

On January 24th, Mayor Luke Feeney recommended former County Coroner Dr. John Gabis, and former council member Ceil Corcoran for the volunteer positions. But council twice failed to ratify them, voting three to five along party lines.

This Monday night, about 60 people filled the benches at council in a rally to support the two, organized by the Facebook group "Stand UP Chillicothe." For about 45 minutes speakers focused on their qualifications, and claimed political division.

Councilman Greg Phillips was the first to explain his "no" vote. He said he was surprised by the response...and that Council had been given the slate of candidates just before that session, with no further information.

Phillips said he doesn't fault the Mayor, but that he said that "there was no way to carve out more time" except with a no vote.

Council did not take any action on the issue before adjourning.
