Landscapes, Cityscapes, and Nightscapes at the Pump House

The Pump House Center for the Arts is showing 60 landscapes, cityscapes, and nightscapes this month.

Mike McGinn says he would be just as happy if he didn't sell any of his oil paintings, and he would leave them on his walls...but he sold many opening night.

A Chillicothe native who now lives in Columbus, he says he may take hundreds of photos of a scene, then get a consensus from family and visitors on which of 40 or 50 of them spread out on a large table to paint.

He gives them pennies to make selections, then marks the back of the prints to get unbiased opinions. He's surprised how many choose the same ones.

McGinn says his nightscapes differentiated him from most artists when he started them, which include New Orleans. He also has doorways of Dublin, Ireland, as well as scenes of New York city...and rural Ohio.

The show ends November 28th, after which is the Pump House's Christmas Bazaar.
