Two Large Highway Drug Busts in Athens, Scioto Counties

One-hundred-sixteen pounds of illicit marijuana were seized during a bust in Athens County, Friday on US Route 33.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports troopers pulled over a vehicle because the driver was speeding. Then, they smelled marijuana, so they did a search.

Ariel Alvarez of Michigan was arrested and charged. He could face up to eight years in prison and a $15,000 fine.

In another traffic stop, from Halloween night in Scioto County, felony drug charges were filed against three more Michigan residents.

This was on State Route 823 following a marked lanes violation. A patrol dog alerted to the 2015 Toyota Corolla and a search revealed 1,136 grams of heroin, 470 grams of marijuana, 280 grams of fentanyl, 20 ecstasy pills, and 50 oxycodone pills. The drugs were valued at around $140-thousand.

The driver, 30-year-old Sierra A. McLean, and passengers 20-year-old Makayla A. Freeman and 20-year-old Cameron H. Wilborn, all of Michigan, have been charged with first-degree felony possession of heroin and fentanyl and trafficking in drugs.
