Chillicothe Holds On for 21-19 Win at Washington Courthouse

If you were out gained 462 yards to 170, chances are you would be marking up a loss. The Blue Lions held this dominating advantage, but Chillicothe used a pick 6, two big kick off returns, and forced 4 WCH turnovers to win on the scoreboard 21-19.

Chillicothe opened the game with a 65 yard kickoff return by Xavier Doss and a one play score behind Hunter Thomas’15 yard scamper to lead 7-0 15 seconds into the game. The Blue Lions answered to tie the game at 7 each. Chillicothe drove and scored on a 17 yard pass from Mason Doughty to Jaiden Cain to lead 14-7.

WCH scored to tie 14-14, but a Cavalier penalty on the extra point kick saw the Blue Lions take the point off the board and go for two. Chillicothe stuffed the run and kept the lead 14-13.

Late in the half, Max Lee came up with a huge interception (his second of the game) and returned it 30 yards for a 21-13 Cavalier lead that carried to the half.

Washington opened the second half with a 70 yard drive and a Thompson TD pass to big Tanner Lemaster. The pass for two was stopped and it was 21-19.

Neither team would score again. Chillicothe couldn’t move the ball at all managing only 3 first downs the entire second half. The Cavs used a bend but don’t break defense to keep Washington out of the end zone.

The Blue Lions final three drives ended on being stuffed on fourth and one near midfield, a lost fumble on the Cavalier 40, and a final Doss interception to seal the win for Chillicothe.

Hunter Thomas rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown. Doughty passed for 88 yards on just four completions.

Troy Thompson connected on 37 of 59 passes for 317 yards for WCH. The Cavs did pick off three Thompson passes.

Chillicothe (3-3) (1-1) returns home next Friday to host Hillsboro.
