Miami Trace Gets Overtime Win Over Chillicothe Cavaliers 35-28

The Chillicothe Cavaliers fought back continually at MT, and came within a few feet wide right on a final second 42 yard field goal from beating the Panthers in regulation.

In overtime, Miami Trace ran four straight rushed from sophomore Ashton LeBeau to quickly score from 20 yards out. The Cavaliers almost pulled out a miracle on their turn.

A loss and a holding penalty saw the Cavaliers face a third and goal from the 30 yard line. Quarterback Mason Doughty rolled right and on the dead run found Xavier Doss at the 10. Doss continued and dove to the one.

Facing fourth down, the Cavs Max Lee was stopped inches short of the goal line and MT had hung on 35-28.

It was back and forth all night. The Panthers went up 14-0. The Cavs scored 14 unanswered to see a 14-14 halftime tie.

MT took advantage of stopping Chillicothe on a 4th and one in Cavs territory to set up a go ahead touchdown and 21-14 lead. The Cavs answered with a TD pass to McCory and a 53 yard TD run by Hunter Thomas to lead 28-21.

The Panthers answered with an 80 yard drive to get even 28-28 with 3:17 left in the game. The Cavs got to the 25 but their 42 yard field goal just missed right.

Chillicothe had 500 yards total offense to 386 for the Panthers. Hunter Thomas ran for 179 yards on 21 carries. Quarterback Mason Doughty had an outstanding night passing 15-20 for a season high 200 yards and a TD.

Wes Melvin threw 16-20 for 182 and two scores for Miami Trace. Senior Jayden Le Beau led MT runners with 101 yards.

Chillicothe (2-3), (0-1), travels to Washington C.H next week.
