"Barns Around Ohio" at Pump House Center for the Arts

As the Fairgrounds fills with farm products, the Pump House Center for the Arts has filled with barns.  The August show is "Barns Around Ohio," featuring Cincinnati artist Robert Kroeger

He says he was inspired to start painting barns by a 2012 tour of Licking County, where he and his wife rounded a corner and saw a slouching little gray barn. Kroeger said he got a message that he should start painting barns, which would help preserve history.

Kroeger's painting style is "impasto," using thick paint shaped by a palette knife...with his signature scratched in by a dental instrument, recalling his former profession as a dentist.

36 of more than a thousand of his barn paintings - including two in Ross County - will be on display until August 29th, when Kroeger will return to speak as he makes a barn painting, as a fundraiser for the Pump House.
