Paint Street to Become Beach August 28th

The Ross County Commissioners gave their blessing to turning Paint Street in front of the Courthouse into a beach late August. The program manager for Downtown Chillicothe Inc., Tiffany Baldwin, explained their big plan for the "Sand in the Streets Volleyball Tournament," August 28th.

The COVA volleyball association has guided the design, with two competitive courts and one recreational court - though the recreational list is filled now. [UPDATE: There will be 24 recreational teams and no competitive teams.]

The plan has also been run past the city. Downtown Chillicothe Inc. hopes for it to become an annual event, and it will be a major fundraiser this year. Then, in September will be their Octoberfest event.

Many downtown businesses will be a part of the event...with sand covering much of Paint Street between Main and Second streets.

This will actually benefit the volleyball courts in Yoctangee Park, since much of the sand will come from them...and allow drainage improvements there. They hope for many volunteers to hep set up on Friday and tear down afterward.
