The Miami Trace Panthers saw their season come to a close Thursday night by the hands of the (16-1) Logan Elm Braves in the Division II Sectional Championship.
The first half was a struggle for Miami Trace as they only made four shots, and Logan Elm’s persistent defense and and sharp shooting from the three-point line proved to be overwhelming at times. The Braves led by 10 after the first quarter and 15 at the half. The smaller Braves were able to get multiple second chances as they out rebounded Trace, 16-8, including six offensive boards and knocking down five three’s in the half. Logan Elm led 26-11 at halftime.
The second half was much more competitive as the Panthers were only outscored 30-27, but they just couldn’t make a dent in Logan Elm’s lead as they fell by 18 and finished the season with a 56-38 loss.
Miami Trace (5-9) was led in scoring by senior Logan Rodgers' 9 points. The Panthers as a team shot just 26% from the field on 12-46 shooting, committed 17 turnovers, and pulled down 20 rebounds.
Logan Elm (16-1) was led in scoring by sophomore Tanner Holbert who scored 20 points, knocking down six 3-point baskets. They were 20-46 from the field with ten made 3-point shots for 43%, committed 20 turnovers, and grabbed 22 rebounds. They move on to face Unioto on March 4th at home for the District Semifinals.
