The Newark Wildcats were as good as advertised and easily disposed of the undermanned Cavaliers in Division 1 Central District Tournament action in Newark on Tuesday.
Rotating nine deep, without missing a beat, the Wildcats raced to a 22-4 first quarter lead. Newark hit six of their first eight three point shots and built a commanding 42-12 advantage at halftime.
The Cavs problems matching up were compounded with numerous first half turnovers. Chillicothe wound up with 21 turnovers for the game.
Eleven different Wildcats scored in the game and when Newark reached a 35 point lead, the clock ran continuously per OHSAA tournament rules.
The Cavs were 11 of 31 from the floor for 35%, were 0-5 on three point shots, and did not shoot a foul shot in the game.
Donovan Baker and Max Lee had six points each and Mike Miller four to lead the Cavs scoring.
Chillicothe finishes 1-11 on the year. COVID, Quarantines, canceled games, limited practices, and injuries took a big toll on the Cavaliers. Chillicothe loses lone senior Joel Barnes and certainly look forward to a healthy and normal season next year.
