The Lady Indians of Hillsboro, in their final week of the regular season, travelled to Greenfield Monday night for the second meeting of the year with the Lady Tigers.
The first game (three weeks ago) was taken by McClain 45 -- 33 on the strength of a monumental second half in which they outscored HHS by the count of 25 -- 10. This contest was decided much earlier as the Tigers broke open a tight game with a 15 -- 3 advantage in the second period to win going away 50 -- 27. With Hillsboro's Bryanna Bledsoe hitting for 11 points in the first frame, the Indians trailed only 17 -- 15. However, the Tigers clamped down on the Indians (holding them scoreless for nearly 3 minutes in the second quarter) and seized total control. In the second half Hillsboro again experienced a prolonged period without scoring (6:30) in the third stanza and trailed 42 -- 22 at the third stop. The final quarter margin, 8 -- 5, also went the way of McClain and the Lady Tigers had the season sweep of the Indians.
Bledsoe, who was on fire early on, led the way offensively for the Indians. As for the hometown Lady Tigers, it was Brianna Weller (with 20 points) who was the key to their offense. For her efforts (rebounding and defense as well), Weller was named the WSRW "player of the game." The Indians have two games remaining this week : they will go on the road to challenge the Chillicothe Cavaliers on Wednesday ; then, on Thursday, they will host FAC leader Miami Trace.
