Chillicothe Council OK's 3 Ordinances

Chillicothe City Council members passed three ordinances on first reading after waiving the three-read rule on Monday.

The first ordinance appropriates $3,201.20 to buy uniforms and body armor for Chillicothe Municipal Court employees, while the other ordinances passed allocate $5,000 for maintenance at the Coppel Soccer Complex and $2,875 for repair of the swimming pool pump walkway.

An ordinance that would create four Chillicothe Downtown Redevelopment Districts moves on to a third reading at council's next session.

In his report, Chillicothe Mayor Luke Feeney encouraged his constituents to do their part in the fight against COVID. One of his suggestions was to stay for home for Thanksgiving.

"I think that if we see lots of large family gatherings over the next few days, we will see those numbers...-- a month ago it's 2000, yesterday it's 8,000 -- spike even higher, and we'll see people above us be forced to make decisions that will impact our local community in ways that we might not be able to weather," said Feeney.

Feeney also recommended shopping local to help small businesses and focusing on self-care during the pandemic.
