The Chillicothe Cavaliers rebounded from a loss to Wheelersburg with a solid 23-7 win over the Blue Lions of Washington CH.
Chillicothe scored on their first two possessions and kept the Blue Lions high powered passing attack at bay in the first two quarters to lead 9-0 at halftime.
The Cavs went three plays and 59 yards with Kam Smith running 26 yards for a touchdown on the first series of the night. Chillicothe came right back and moved into Washington CH territory for a 32 yard field goal by Jacob Coffland to lead 9-0 midway in the first quarter.
The Blue Lions started to get going in the second period but a Logan Snowden interception stopped the visitors to keep WCH off the scoreboard.
Washington CH gained momentum in the third quarter behind quarterback Ethan Rogers Wright as the senior led the Blue Lions on a 75 yard to march. A scrambling 22 yard strike to Calum Brown pulled the visitors to within 9-7 with 6 minutes remaining in the third period.
The Cavaliers dug in and put together a 46 yard touchdown drive with a Hunter Thomas 2 yard run to regain momentum and put up a 16-7 lead with 50 seconds left in the third.
Jaiden Cain picked off a Wright pass on the ensuing possession to set up a final Cavs score. Smith finished off a big night by finding Joel Barnes on a 31 yard scoring pass to increase the lead to 23-7 and seal the win.
Smith led the Cavalier attack hitting 11-17 passes for 160 yards and rushing for 131 yards. The senior QB threw for a score and ran for one.
Rogers Wright hit for 19 of 35 and 200 yards, but was picked off twice by the Cavalier defense.
Chillicothe out-gained the Lions 377 to 255. Penalties slowed dow both offenses with each team being penalized 80 yards.
Washington CH falls to (0-1/0-2) on the year while Chillicothe evens their mark at (1-0/1-1).
The Cavs travel to Hillsboro next Friday.
