The Pump House Center for the Arts has been open...carefully...for more than a month.
Portraits in oil and graphite dominate the current showing. Circleville artist Steven Riggs call his show "A New Renaissance" for his personal preference and to inspire others to strive for that kind of excellence.
Riggs prefers oil to acrylic, and finds some models within his family...even in a photo his great-grandmother, reading a mysterious letter that is up to the viewer to interpret.
A virtual exhibit is on the Pump House's Facebook Page, but Riggs says there's nothing like the real thing...especially with his portrait of Vincent Van Gough whose eye are said to follow the viewer.

Pump House president Marcia Rodgers says when the governor permitted art galleries to reopen, the Pump House actually invited the Health Department to visit to help them prepare. There are now no opening nights, but instdead virual tours are available.
She says the first one in July had more then 900 views in less than 24 hours, which speaks toward an appetite for such things.
The Pump House is open for their regular hours of Wednesday through Saturday 11 to 4 and Sunday 1 to 4. They even sell facemasks for a dollar, if you need one.
The current show ends about August 22, and then it's "The Hills" competition in September.
