NCAA Expands Ban On Confederate Flag

(Indianapolis, IN) -- No states where the Confederate flag is prominently displayed can host NCAA Championship events.

The association's Board of Governors made the announcement in a statement Friday. Board Chair Michael Drake said there is no place "for symbols or acts of discrimination and oppression."

Mississippi is the only state directly affected by the ban's expansion because its state flag still incorporates the Confederate flag.

The previous policy, enacted in 2001, prohibited the awarding of sites determined in advance to states that displayed the Confederate flag. However, if a school earned the right to host a championship event, it could do so.
