The local president of the Ross County NAACP says the last few weeks have brought protests for some of the same calls for civil rights that she grew up hearing about in the 1960's. Adrienne D'Souza says the protests being seen today, need to stay peaceful, which was the message stressed by Dr. Martin Luther King Junior, almost a half-century ago.
D'Souza pointed to the very successful and peaceful rally held in downtown Chillicothe almost two weeks ago. She said that was a beautiful example of how a community came together with local officials and law enforcement, wanting to move forward to a common cause that we are all equal, regardless of the color of our skin.
D'Souza says she has been asked by Chillicothe Mayor Luke Feeney to be a member of a committee looking at the city police department's current "use-of-force" policy.
