Chillicothe Council OK's News Parking Meters On Paint & Second Streets

Parking meters are in the future for portions of Paint and Second streets in Chillicothe. During its Monday meeting, Chillicothe Council members waived the three-read rule to pass an ordinance to transfer and appropriate $23,000 for the meters.

"These parking meters are a best practice, and they offer us the opportunity to actually enforce parking -- in essence, helping with downtown businesses as they reopen," said Chillicothe Mayor Luke Feeney.

According to Feeney, a second piece of legislation is needed to determine where the meters would specifically be placed along Paint and Second streets.

Also on Monday, Council members passed:

*Ordinance to appropriate $115,000 to buy materials and install a new waterline on Cliffside Drive;

*Ordinance to appropriate $4,000 for railroad bed/floodwall leveling;

*Ordinance to appropriate $16,000 for election expenses;

*Ordinance authorizing the city to participate in ODOT's Cooperative Purchasing Program for road salt;

*Ordinance appropriating $7,021 for costs associated with the city's participation in the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission Intern Program;

*Ordinance authorizing the Chillicothe Muncipal Court to apply for the Ohio Attorney General's Victims of Crime Act Grant and the State Victims Assistance Act Grant to extend the Chillicothe Municipal Court Victim Witness Assistance Program.

Finally, Council heard the second reading of an ordinance to appropriate $149,833.33 for the planning and design of the new fire station at 40-50 Centennial Boulevard.

Council next meets in a special session at 7 p.m., June 1, 2020.
