Monday evening, Chillicothe Council was surprised to hear their clerk is resigning.
Council Clerk John Fosson told the gathering that he would retire from serving council as soon as a replacement could be found.
Fosson stepped out before he could be interviewed, but council president Bruce Arnold praised his service as a clerk since 1997, and said he will sincerely miss his knowledge.
Arnold pointed out that Fosson has his name on a city fire station, as a council member when it was built...and was also an attorney, who sometimes lends expertise to executive sessions. He said most clerks are not at that level of legal knowledge.
He said he did not know where to start to replace Fosson...but if you want to try, contact Arnold.

Council heard one of their members plans to reach out to those ailing in the community.
Greg Phillips says when he was given chairmanship of Community Affairs, he felt it was a bit of a hodgepodge committee. But he wanted to address its meaningful issues, including addiction, homelessness, and mental health - and to keep communication with city schools and their needs.
He said the issues are "near and dear" because he and committee members see and feel their effects, and probably everyone know someone who's struggled with them.
Phillips says he wants accurate reports, so that the committee is data-driven, and hopes to have a report in a couple months.
