Monday evening, Chillicothe Council was asked to make "underspeed vehicles" clearly legal on city streets.
Josh Tripp spoke in public participation, saying that he uses a golf cart to travel three blocks from home to work, and elsewhere in the city. He said he checked with law enforcement and got his golf cart inspected...but then heard it might not be street legal.
He says there are others in his neighborhood who ride golf carts on city streets - one for more than 20 years - who assume they are also legal.
Tripp said "if the law isn't working for us, then that's why council's here, and we can change it."
He says moving through the historic city at the speed of a carriage helps him to appreciate it better...especially Yoctangee Park. And, it encourages him to spend locally instead of risking traffic on Bridge Street.
He offered two sections of Ohio law to guide the city, and any other assistance...including a ride on his blue golf cart named "Gonzo."
