The Chillicothe Cavaliers stand alone at the top of the Frontier Athletic Conference boys basketball standings following a 66-52 win at Jackson, Saturday.

Coming off a physical match with Cincinnati Moeller, the Cavaliers had to battle an unbeaten Jackson squad for four tough quarters on Saturday to gain first place in the FAC.

Jackson swarmed the ball and continually double teamed Chillicothe’s big men forcing the Cavaliers to grind out some offensive patience to gain a win.

The Cavs led 12-10 after one, and 29-21 at the half. Chillicothe got the lead to 14 before Jackson made one final run to cut the lead to 7. The Cavaliers nailed the game down by going 21 of 23 from the foul line on the night.

The Cavs had their best balanced scoring of the year. Tre Beard and Brandon Noel hit for 16 a piece while Jayvon Maughmer added 12 and Vincent Roper had 11 points.

Chillicothe hit 20 of 36 shots and only had 9 turnovers to go with their clutch foul shooting.

The Ironmen were 19 of 44 from the floor and 5 of 8 from the charity stripe. Jackson committed 12 turnovers.

Jackson’s outstanding point guard Caleb Wallis led the Ironmen with 16 points.

The win gives Chillicothe the advantage in the FAC finishing the first round at (5-0), as Jackson suffers their first loss in conference (4-1) and their first loss for the season.

Chillicothe is now (8-1) and hosts Zane Trace on December 27.
