Hillsboro's Lady Indians opened their home and FAC slates for the 2019-20 season by hosting the Chillicothe Cavaliers.
After three straight road games (going 1-2), there was hope that Hillsboro could add to the woes that the Cavs had been experiencing by dropping their first two games. However, Chillicothe used superior size on the interior to best the Indians 39-29.
It was the second quarter that, in reality, keyed the win for CHS. They outscored the Indians by an 11-2 count to take a commanding 20-8 lead at the intermission.
HHS continued to struggle offensively in the third period - generating only 5 points (while Chillicothe added 10). So, trailing 30-13 going into the fourth quarter, HHS got on a run to get to within 8 in the waning moments of the period.
Despite that run, the Cavaliers had enough poise to put the game away with clutch free throw shooting to get their first win of the season.
The Indians were led by Brynn Bledsoe's 14 points. Josie Hopkins added 10. With the loss, HHS stands at 1-3 overall and 0-1 in FAC play.
The Lady Indians will next travel to Washington CH to face the Blue Lions.
