Ohio "Compliant Driver's License" Requires More Documents

If you are due to renew your Ohio driver's license, be prepared to take more information about yourself to the Bureau of Motor Vehicle Registrar.

The federal government begins requiring you to have a compliant driver's license on October 1st of 2020, IF you want to use that to get through the Transportation Safety Administration when boarding a commercial airline and getting into a federal office building.

Charlie Norman is the Deputy Registrar for the State of Ohio, and he explains that the state created the new ID to comply with the federal "Real ID Act."

If you elect to stay with only a Standard Driver's License, you will need to bring a bunch of paperwork with you to clear TSA each time you board a plane.
