Many spoke passionately in defense of a local boy scout camp for three hours Tuesday night in a conference room in the Best Western Adena Inn on North Bridge Street.
The Chief Logan Reservation is a camp opened in 1962 just east of Richmond Dale, at the center of a Boy Scout Council of the same name covering Ross, Pike, Jackson, and Vinton counties.
It's now part of the Simon Kenton Council, with its headquarters in Columbus. Its executive board members presented their negative financial data to more than 100 concerned scout alumni and parents who had heard the council was considering closing the camp.

Jeff Moe, Executive Director for the Simon Kenton Council, said three years of financial and attendance data motivated the board to recommend to close Chief Logan camp after next year's summer camping season, even with the success of programs there.
Moe said they will share the expressions of the audience, as well as their own data, to the board for their vote Thursday afternoon.

Chris Rhorer is the president Chief Logan Reservation Staff Alumni Association. He said they started an online petition Sunday after learning about the possible vote for closure.
Rhorer said he presented more than 4,000 signatures from around the world of former workers and campers at Chief Logan Reservation after three days, to ask to council to postpone their vote, or vote no.
He said he wasn't sure what action should be taken to save the camp, since everyone learned of the potential vote only recently - but he felt the council needs to slow down.
He suggested visiting the Facebook pages of the Chief Logan Reservation Staff Alumni Association and the Chief Logan Reservation, and to contact the Simon Kenton Council, Boy Scouts of America.
