Logan Rushing Attack Leads Chieftains to Win Over Chillicothe

Logan’s two headed rushing attack of quarterback Braeden Spatar and running back Caden McCarty combined for 274 yards rushing to lead Logan to their first win of 2019, an 18-7 decision at Chillicothe. The duo ran the ball a combined 55 times out of 60 Chieftan plays.

.

The Logan read option controlled the play with the visitors owing the time of possession 29 minutes to 19 for the Cavaliers.

.

Meanwhile, Chillicothe got little going in the first half with a three and out, a turnover, and a drive to the Logan 30. Logan produced touchdown drives of 50 and 30 yards as McCarty scored two TD’s to put Logan up 12-0 at the half.

.

The Cavaliers of Doug Pryor made two big adjustments coming out for the second half. They put more defensive lineman up front and opened up the offense to some successful passing and QB Christian Benson runs.

.

Chillicothe drove 77 yards for an opening second half score as Benson ran in from 8 yards out, after a big pass play to Courtland Duncan. When the Cavs stopped Logan on their next series it looked like a possible homecoming victory.

.

Trailing just 12-7, the Cavaliers began the final quarter with the ball and momentum. That “big mo” left in a hurry when Benson went down with an injury, forcing Chillicothe to their third quarterback this season.

.

Logan forced a stop and marched 52 yards with McCarty scoring his third touchdown of the night with seven minutes remaining in the game to put away their first win of the season.

.

Trevor Lee came in at quarterback and valiantly marched the Cavs to the Logan 9 before a penalty set the Cavs back and stopped their final drive.

.

Benson ran for 51 yards and a score and passed for 71 before going out with the injury. McCarty rushed for a game high 154 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Chieftans. Each team only had one turnover on the night.

.

Chillicothe now falls to (1-4) and moves to FAC conference play next week, as they open league play at Washington Court House.
