Monday evening, Chillicothe Council heard they might be buying an East-side warehouse.
The city has made a bid on the former Pepsi distribution facility on 7th Street. Service Director Jeff Carman was on a tour of it and said it looked very promising.
In review session, council members responded positively to the possibility. This could allow the city to clear several dilapidated buildings, and combine City Services, Parks & Recreation, Utilities on Park Street, and City Electrical near City Transit and the fuel depot.
The Tin Shop in Yoctangee Park and City Services' so-called "bat house" on Riverside Street could be demolished.
Council President Bruce Arnold said the city needs to act quickly, with a closing required at the end of October. Council may see legislation next Monday.
At a price of about a million dollars...with a new roof and renovations the entire project should total about two million for the 31,290 square foot building.
In another discussion, council learned it should take about eight weeks to create office space for the Law Director in old City Hall, hopefully before the new year.
