Lady Cavs Fall to Circleville in D-2 Sectional Final

The Chillicothe Lady Cavaliers saw their tremendous second half season comeback ended in the sectional finals Saturday afternoon, falling to top seed Circleville 45-28 at Adena.

It was a game of quarters for Coach Beverly’s Cavs. In the middle two quarters Chillicothe matched the Tigers point for point, with each team scoring 25 in the second and third periods.

The first and last quarters were different stories as Chillicothe scored only three points in the first stanza and were shut out in the final eight minutes. The Cavs were 1-18 from the floor in the tell tale periods.

Chillicothe battled the inside height of Circleville as the Lady Tigers featured two six footers. Those twin towers proved to be too much for Chillicothe as sophomore Kenzie McConnell (21) and junior Meghan Davis (10) combined for 31 of Circleville’s points.

The Lady Cavs made a strong run in the second and third quarters going to a trapping press and getting 9 points each from Shawnice Smith and Julia Hall. Hall hit three trifectas when Circleville went to a zone.

Smith and Hall led the Lady Cavs with nine points each and Meliah’s Johnson added seven for Chillicothe. The Cavs wound up 10-36 from the field for just 27%. Circleville had a 23-14 rebound advantage.

The Tigers were 19-41 for 46% shooting. The Lady Tigers are 19-4 and advance to District play at Southeastern on Wednesday.

The Lady Cavs rebounded from an 0-7 start to finish 10-14 and return four starters next year.
